Mwenya Kasonde

Dr. Mwenya Kasonde is an emergency medicine physician and Global Health consultant for bilateral and multilateral agencies including USAID, UNICEF and the WHO, as well as the private sector. She currently supports the secretariat of the multiagency Health Data Collaborative. She previously served as Assistant Director for Global Health at the Ministry of Health in Zambia. Having worked for the National Health Service in the UK as a physician for many years, her focus has turned to empowering lower- and middle-income countries to impact and participate in global health policy implementation. She studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. She also holds a diploma in Health Economics from University College Dublin and is currently studying for her Masters in Global Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. She is passionate about economic empowerment, women’s rights and the attainment of Universal Health Coverage for all.
